THE EARLY YEARS • AUSTIN, TEXAS
Dan Junk was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Dan moved to Austin, Texas, looking for opportunity and a place to build a better life.
Dan married Frances, and together they began dreaming of a business that could provide for their family and serve their community.
After years of hard work and a shared vision, Dan and Fran Junk opened the first Dan’s Hamburgers on South Congress. From day one, Dan worked the grill while Fran ran the dressing board. They became the original and iconic cook-and-dressing-board team, that built the restaurant one customer at a time. Joining them were their son, Ed Terrazas, who had previously worked alongside them at King Burger in the 60s, and their daughter, Katie Congdon, making Dan’s a true family business from its very first day.
Growing the Family: Second Dan’s opens at South Lamar and Barton Skyway.
Airport Opens: The menu expands, breakfast is introduced, and Dan’s reputation grows.
